Our Journey
Yula-Punaal is run by local Aboriginal people who are committed to preserving, strengthening and sharing culture and heritage with surrounding communities in respectful and meaningful ways.

Our cultural values are guided by a circle framework that reflects Aboriginal ways of being, doing, learning and knowing. This living framework expresses our core values, grounded in spirituality, culture and heritage, and strengthens how we support families and communities.

Located at the foot of the Wattagan Mountains on Awabakal Country, we honour our Ancestors and all those who have walked this land before us. As Aboriginal people living, working, learning and gathering on Country, we remain committed to protecting and maintaining our cultural connections to land and waterways for spiritual, cultural, language, ceremonial and heritage purposes.
OUR NAME
The name Yula-Punaal brings together words from two Aboriginal languages: Yula, meaning “rain” in Gamilaraay, and Punaal, meaning “sun” in Awabakal. Together, they reflect the deep cultural connections that shape our identity and purpose.
Our Vision
Yula-Punaal Centre, formerly Yulawirri Nurai Indigenous Association Inc., has long worked at the forefront of community life, fostering unity, connection and shared understanding between Aboriginal organisations, groups and the broader community.

Our vision is to build strong partnerships with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities, as well as government organisations, so that we may come together as one nation, challenge harmful myths, share culture with respect, and advance genuine reconciliation.
